Your Crafts Are Unique

Reading products descriptions on eBay or Etsy is always a bit sad. Some people can write great descriptions, but some always underestimate the worth of their business. The great strength of handcrafted item is that they are unique, and you should insist on that.

« Oh, I’m only selling this blue scarf since I’m running out of space at home. Please buy from me ». Ok, that’s a bit extreme, but you see those a lot. How can you add a bit of life into to your business?

First, I doubt your item is that dull. Maybe that blue scarf was really made from a pattern you designed yourself. You can’t get a more exclusive design than that! Why don’t you insist about that when you’re trying to sell? I’m sure your buyers would love to know that.

Or maybe that scarf was made with a great handspun yarn, or something bought from a little producer? Once again, that’s great info that would add a lot of value to that piece, and of great interest to a potential buyer.

Also, you are the little business, not Wal-Mart. Don’t insist on price, insist on the uniqueness of your business. You can give them someone the big box store can never give them: you. Be friendly at all time and give them great service and you’ll already have an advantage. Some people take that a step farther and start a blog to talk about their products and craft in a friendly, personal voice.

So, never ever say again « It’s only ». Find the uniqueness in everything you do!

Happy craft selling,

Cindy
