Yarn wholesale…any advice…..from people in the know?
Hi, I am wanting to get serious about making a profit from handmade crafts, however I am finding it quite expensive to buy decent yarn, then making something to sell and still coming out with a profit after listing, selling and paypal fees.
How do I go about finding a wholesaler, any advice on buying bulk and saving money, whilst making enough of a profit to start a business properly?

What kind of yarn are you looking for? If you are looking for unique, one of a kind, hand-dyed yarns – then you will have to develop a relationship with an independent dyer. You are better off looking for someone local (find out where the nearest spinning guild meets and then attend a meeting) to find a local source. You may need to work with more than one. If you want commercially made yarns, – then mill-ends are the least expensive source. You need to contact the mills – typically found in New England – and find out how to get the left overs.
Some of us who have large yarn needs find a really good bargain occasionally at Tuesday Morning shops. There are also a number of shop owners who buy mill ends and may work with you so that both turn a profit. Go to your local yarn store (LYS) and talk to the owners. They may have shop worn skeins that have to go out at a loss – and many have bargain bins.
Your best bet is to join ravelry.com (it’s free) and then getting on the forums to do your research.
