The wal-mart has a haberdasherie section that should carry felt.

Go to a thrift store or good will or garage sale and look at clothes people want to sell including denim. You can find any number of different materials. This will be inexpensive and you can experiment with different materials. You can use the buttons to for eyes and if people have yarn or scrap materials , you can make patchwork items. You need to launder these things, of course don’t use bleach. But, I like Pine-sol, the original. It cleans and deodorizes but won’t strip color and there is no after smell. Cuts grease or oil stains in jeans too. Used to be married to an oilfield worker. Only thing that cleans thier clothes.
