Layered sand art is pretty and doesn’t take a whale of a lot of talent. You’d need the containers and cork stoppers for them, sand in many colors from the craft store, paper to make big funnels with — and a good vacuum cleaner to clean up the spills.
Another idea, if they are wide-mouth containers with no lids, is to make tiny terrariums (terraria, I guess, is really the correct plural.) Get fun rocks and such, and maybe some plastic small animals. Those would be fun.
You could also put artificial autumn leaves in them, and make an autumn scene.
Use Google or Dogpile to look up simple crafts. I’d suggest looking up crafts for the kids’ mental age (type in “simple crafts kids age 5-6″ even if they’re actually 10-12 years old) because then you’ll have stuff they really can do. Modify the craft a little if needs be to fit their physical ages. I’ve found a lot of fun crafts by looking them up this way. I can never recall the sites’ addresses or names, however, only the way to find them.

I did this a while back for my cousin’s birthday party. It was a hit, and your student’s can use it for anything.
Hope this helps!
I think you will find many ideas here: http://newfreebooks.com Click on research and for those children look under the crafts for kids. You will find something there and the second link section on that same website.
