What’s the best glue stick for paper?
This is a dumb issue but it’s annoying me. The glue I’ve been using doesn’t last. I like to make fake postcards for my long-distance husband, for instance, which usually involves gluing a magazine photo or a funny ad to a stiff paper backing, but often he says it’s almost falling apart when it gets to him. Other crafts, same thing. I’ve been using regular UHU glue stick, the kind that goes on purple and dries clear. Is there another better brand available in Canada?

elmers glue stick its really sticky good luck with your postcards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If glue sticks aren’t doing it for you, I have another suggestion. You could get a Xzron machine at Micheal”s or A.C.Moores. They offer several different cartridges to use in the machine. The one you should look for, is the one that has permanent adhesive. You run the items through the machine and it attaches the adhesive to the back of the item. You peel off the protecive paper, and attach the item to your postcard. The machine and the cartridges may seem costly at first, but you get 50′ of adhesive and you’ll find many uses for the Xzron. Look for their 40% off coupons.
I just got out my gluestick to see what it is. It says Office Depot glue stick. Washable, Acid-free, Non-toxic. There is a phone number – 1-888-463-3768 – and a website – http://www.officedepot.com – on this glue stick, too. I use this when making envelopes for my hand-made greeting cards. (I glue colored tissue paper on the part that will be the inside of the envelope to prevent the cardface showing through to the outside.) It works great when gluing tissue paper to card stock paper. (It says it’s “Made in Canada” so there should be places there that sell it…???)
I also use a liquid glue to glue the actual envelope together. It’s called Tombo Mono Aqua Liquid Glue. Two Applicators (one on each end), Nontoxic, Acid-free. “Use on paper, cardboard, etc., Goes on clear, Dries clear, Odorless, Washable, Nonflammable.” I bought this at Offce Depot too, although it is not an Office Depot Brand product. My mom says these envelopes are glued so well that she is unable to open them (by pulling up on the flap), and she has to cut them open with a letter opener.
The only thing I find with this liquid glue is that it tends to wrinkle the paper if you use too much, but once it’s dried, it isn’t that noticeable.
Your local office supply store might be able to suggest a product for you, too.
Hope this helps. That is a great idea you have, making postcards!
