Make Pull Candy. http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,candy_pull,FF.html or http://candy.about.com/od/candybasics/ss/pullcandy.htm

Years ago, when friends gathered, Pull Candy was very often the project they did. It also has scientific overtones: You make a syrup, cook it to a particular temperature, pour it onto a buttered slab or a buttered platter to cool until it can be handled. Then you butter your hands and pull it between two people until it turns a creamy color and becomes difficult to pull. At that point, twist the rope of candy to give it a shape and cut it into pieces. When it’s cool, you can chew a piece–or whack it with a hammer and watch it shatter–then figure out why something soft enough to chew will shatter when hit with a hammer.
