What should I use to make my craft project last?

I have an idea to create a kind of memory box by gluing pictures to a shoe box. The pictures are on just regular paper. I want to know what I should put over it to make the paper last and protect it. I want the box to last, I’m making it as sort of a time line of my life up till senior year high school, it would be cool to look back at it later on.
