For years I went in Craft Fairs. It was fun and profitable at first. Now most of the entry fees are so high that it is no longer profitable. The last few I was in, most of the people were just looking. If you want to do it for fun, I would say that you should go to a few first and see what is selling and for how much. Talk to a few of the vendors and ask how it’s going. If they are selling a lot they will be glad to tell you and if they aren’t they will tell you that too. I would also stick with one type of product. It is easier to make things assembly line style than one of this and one of that and so on.

If you don’t have a specialty craft that you do already then you probably shouldn’t try to sell things at a show. The supplies you will need to buy to get set up to make a proper display will more than likely exceed the amount of money you will make at the show. Those little school shows that usually don’t require you to go through a jury screening are usually not profitable because of low attendance and shoppers expecting garage sale prices. If you’re looking to make some extra money come up with creative ways to cut your budget, clip coupons…you’ll be better off for it.

I have this bathroom decoration that I got at a craft fair that I thought was really neat. It’s 3 washcloths rolled longways (one at a time). Lie them next to one another rolled up so they look like this –> III. Now you need to fold them in half and put a rubberband around the top part so it makes like a little closed purse looking thing. Tie pretty ribbons and lace around the rubber band to make it fancy looking. In the pocket that formed from folding these in half you can slip a bar of soap into it. (you decide if you want pretty smelling soap, cheap soap, practical use soap etc.) That’s it! Sell them for like $4-$6 each. Get the package of colored washcloths from Wal-Mart that are like $5 for a bunch of them. Ribbon and lace and strands of plastic pearls are cheap. See what soap you can get at the dollar stores or use something else entirely if you want to. The key is to be creative and make them look really pretty. Just an idea…..Good Luck!
