What kind of easy and quick crafts can I make with the leftover fabric?

My Girl Scout troop is attending Winterfest. Winterfest is where Girl Scout (GS) troops from all over the area come and sell cute little things to each other. We have always been able to make cute-sy things, but this year I’m stumped. What can I do with leftover fabric material that will sell out quickly?

Since nowadays the Eco trend is going, reusing left over cloths to make small gifts such as banadanas and bags. At my school, we also made hair ties and bow ties from leftover t-shirts.

Fleece scraps are used to make toys for little dogs. Cut a strip about 2″ x 11″ and tie a knot on each end, then tie one in the middle. This works for dogs up to 5 or 6 pounds.

Jeans legs can be used to make toys for bigger dogs. Hem the raw edges and tie one huge granny knot in the middle of the leg. It makes a great tug, chew, or fetch toy for a medium to large dog. Knotted old socks also make good chew toys for small dogs.

Fabric flowers are fun and easy. Just cut a long strip of fabric, fold it in half, baste the two long raw edges together with with a sewing machine or by hand , and gather it up tight and make a long ruffle. Turn in the two ends, and hand stitch them. Just twist the material around and around, start tight to start to make the flower insides, then just keep turning. When it is done, take a needle and thread, start at one side of the bottom, and catch all the curves witht he needle, and do that again in the other direction. The width of the strips and the length determine the size of the flower. Use head pins and seed beads and a little super glue for the stamen.
these make great wrapping bows, headband bows, bracelets, corsages, whatever you want flowers on.

Clothespin dolls are cute and can be quite elaborate, and go here for ideas: fun.familyeducation.com/collage/fabric-?arts/47899.html. Or type cheap crafts with leftover fabric for a menu of sites.
I saw a ornament at Macy’s that looked like a cupcake. It was very cute. Pink and withe and had decorations on it. I also saw a box of candy, all from fabric. the candy was square, and there were four of them in a fabric “box”.

Make little bitty stuffed animal ornaments. Or little pairs of mittens. Or little puppets.

These bottlecap pincushion rings are great, and you can use fabric scraps as small as 3″. You’d probably want a adult to do the drilling, but otherwise the girls can just go to town. Start saving bottle caps, batting and trim scraps, and leftover fiberfill now, and all you’ll have to buy is some elastic and glue.
    Good luck!

Here are a few more ideas :

    – Use some for applique work on linen, dress material, etc.

    – Cover bathroom slippers, along with some pompoms, or other adornment.

    – Make book covers, file/folder/binder covers for teenagers, bookmarks, greeting cards, etc.

    – Rugs, mats, etc. You can cut them into long strips braid them together then sew them into a coil in any shape. Or you can cut long pieces & weave them together, joining the edges.

    – You can quilt them into messenger bags, totes, little coin purses, i-pod/cell phone holders, etc.. Or just sew the pieces together to get a big fabric; iron & then cut & sew to make whatever you want – eg. handbags, ties, belts, headbands, scarves, purses, bedtime slippers, etc.

    – Hats, belts, other accessories.

    – Make artificial flowers – small flowers to adorn dresses, hats, accessories, linen, etc.
