What is the best 12″ paper trimmer for scrapbooking?

I need to cut card stock and photos and the trimmers I have do not cut straight or leave ragged edges. I would prefer it to be portable to take to crops. I would be open to ideas of a straight trimmer or rotary trimmer, whichever is most accurate.

I have a Stampin’ Up! paper trimmer and find it is good. It has a metal plate on it which makes bending and bowing harder so the lines I cut are straighter and more accurate. It is able to cut photos. It is very portable and has a swing-out arm to measure 12″ papers. It is also possible to add a scoring blade to the runner so it turns into a scoring tool when you want that. The increments are in both metric and imperial which is great for me since Australia runs on the metric system but a lot of USA projects are done in inches.

Sometimes the blade itself needs to be replaced in a paper trimmer as a dull blade can result in ragged and even torn cardstock and designer paper.

Another tip is to always position the blade at the top of the paper cutter and bring the blade down towards you to cut something. If you consistently do this, the blade ‘learns’ to cut only that way and gives better results than if it is sawn both up and down its track.

When I am at home I do use a heavy guillotine to cut paper and photos. I find using a heavy blade like that gives great results, though you have to be careful to keep the blade from pulling the paper towards itself a little bit. Once you get the hang of holding the paper firmly while cutting, the guillotine works wonderfully.

fiskars is the best. I prefer a desk top paper trimmer because I can lay a 12×12 piece of paper flat on it. it gives a better and easier cut.
