What do you see as the difference between arts and crafts?
Is it art the first time and craft when reduced to instructions? Does art “speak” or communicate more than craft? Please explain your reasoning behind your opinion.

I see Art as a drawing, painting, ect.
I see Craft as constructing something. A bird house, a quilt, blown glass, ect.
Even a combination of both, a stained glass window, a mosaic.
Both can be Artisans at what they do. Or scribbles and junk.
Any beautifully created object can “speak” to a person
Art is any expression of creativity, painting, acting, singing, etc
A craft is an actual physical thing.
I don’t consider Crafting to be an art if you are simply following instructions, because it required no creativity. You must add something special that is just “you” to be considered “art”
If you are very crafty, your presentation will be considered art.
If you like it, then it speaks to you.
Many crafts and some art resonate as “homely” (plain and unsophisticated nature: artless, homespun, natural, rustic, unadorned, unpolished) while others are more sophisticated.
Those words and their definitions and connotations have varied throughout time, and still are in many cultures. So there really isn’t anything definitive about the definitions unless you want to limit yourself to the opinion of a certain group, etc.
Personally, I think it’s complicated and can be overlapping and subject to biases, so am careful how I use the terms.

Art has not always been what we think it is today. An object regarded as art today may not have been perceived as such when it was first made, nor was the person who made it necessarily regarded as an artist. Both the notion of “art” and the idea of the “artist” are relatively modern terms. Art lacks a satisfactory definition. It is easier to describe it as the way something is done “the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others rather than what it is.
A craft, on the other hand, is a skill, especially involving practical arts. It may refer to a trade or particular art.

In a single word: Perception
There is no clear cut answer. The areas between the two overlap greatly, or not at all depending on who you are asking. Most see “crafts” as anything made with your hands. But I have seen some crafts that are truly works of art… so again, Perception
“Arts and Crafts” is a term for a philosophy of producing decorative objects by hand rather than using an industrial process. It values handcraftsmanship over the use of industrial machines and equipment. This is the usage from which “arts and crafts” as a subject to be studied in school or at camp came from, or the department of “arts and crafts” in a department store.
“Art” is the creation of beautiful things or significant things, the use of creativity in accomplishing a goal, the use of skill to produce a visual representation of an idea, and the like. We speak of “the art and science of management” to imply that while some successful management skills can be studied and learned and work the same way every time (science), others require inborn creativity and will work for some but not for others (art).
“Craft” describes the product of skilled labor or a type of work that requires skilled labor. The product itself may be “handcrafted” or “machine crafted.” For example, machining and tool and dye manufacture are a skilled craft. Knitting is a craft that requires skill. Brewing beer is a craft when done in small batches (“craft beer”) and an industrial process when done in huge batches by automated machinery.
To me, an “artist” is someone who has a vision and does whatever it takes to fulfill that vision. A “crafter” is someone who takes another person’s idea (art) – whether it comes out of a book, a class, directions on the internet, whatever – and recreates that person’s idea. (I see a lot of crafters who make a living off of other people’s ideas!) The person who created the art that is being mass-produced out of a craft book is an artist, but the person who buys the book and follows the instructions is just a crafter.
I used to own an art gallery and I saw so many creative people who made beautiful art and they were almost ashamed of it because they thought of it merely as a “craft”. I also saw many crafters who were very self righteous and thought themselves to be artists. Funny how that works!
It is a fine line, and I have seen many poeple start out as merely crafters and turn into artists because they get inspired by the craft projects they are doing and say “Hey! I can think of new ideas on my own!”
I believe that art is more a creation of oneself while a craft is a reproduced idea. As a teacher I prefer open ended art ideas to “crafts” where you look at a finished project and try to copy it. Art allows for more free expression.
Is something you do without instruction or having someone tell you how and what to do.
My husband does art, meaning he can draw me a picture of anything I want.
Crafts is what I do. I do concider myself very crafty. I can make anything that I see or have instructions for. I am crafty in the way that I will make my own crafts but to me crafts has more stuff to it, art doesn’t.
I do believe art says way more than crafts say.
Crafty people can turn something into something totally different, art is an original. Something that comes from nothing.
Make sense?
