What craft would you recommend for a beginner?
I bought my daughter some finger paint–she didn’t enjoy it, but I did and that got me feeling “crafty.” What is a good craft for beginners? Nothing expensive, something I could finish in an hour or so, and something that requires little or no talent. (I can’t really sew, crochet any of that type thing, not very artistic, just something fun.) Thanks!
Eh…I didn’t think I needed to say this but…No video games. A CRAFT

How about beading? Walmart has a childrens section with brightly colored beads. She could wear what she makes and that would make her proud of herself.
Do you or your daughter have photos lying around? Scrapbook them! It’s really fun, simple and doesn’t cost that much. Plus it’s a wonderful way to archive your family memories.
Not sure how old your daughter is, but FIMO clay is also fun. You can make beads, play food for dolls, etc. Not a lot of $ but really fun and you can create a lot. Wait for a good sale at the fabric store..you can often get the clay on a good sale price.
You can cut pictures of people and animals out of old magizines and glue them to a box to decorate it.
I think you mean crafts for you to do, not your daughter- I’d suggest checking out Craftzine.com – my favorite idea site. It’s got lots of projects for all skill levels and you can look through and see what peaks your interest.
Scrapbooking can be fairly inexpensive- a lot of supplies you can even get at dollar stores and there is a dollar section at jo-anne fabrics for scrapbookers now. I don’t like it much myself- but you may find it fun.
Maybe you would like candle making- it can be pretty cheap. I saw a tutorial once where they used canning wax and melted in crayons to color the candles. You can set up a simple double boiler on your stove (be very cafeful) to melt and fill jars or different holders with wax- even different colors to make layers. You could get pretty creative and it doesn’t take long to finish. When you get more comfortable you can even make molds out of duct tape and paper towel tubes or invest in a mold or two. Don’t forget to pick up some cheap wicks from the craft store and even some scents (pretty cheap too). I used to make candles- it can be great fun. Good luck finding something crafty to do!
try quilling, super fun super easy

You didn’t say how old your daughter is – but how about making tie dyed T shirts – summer is coming – and all those bright colored capris and shorts – these would be a great match. There are kits at Walmart – with squirt bottles, and everything you need. Only suggestion is wash the T shirt first – you need to get the sizing out. Have fun – make for family or friends for B’day gifts.
I love scrap booking – how about an ABC all about me book – Take her pictures – and make a title or quote that begins with each letter of the alphabet – Check out scrapbook.com for quotes – a great project for both of you to do together. A – active – artistic – adorable – apple of her Dad’s eye. Then when you have chosen the word or words – journal (your part) about why the picture reminds you of the words you have chosen. This is something that will take a while to complete – but if you work on it together – it could be a nice project with a little time when you have a chance. Keep it together in a tote – with all the supplies- words cut out of magazines etc. and in no time you will have created a treasured keepsake. Don’t forget to date photos and identify those in the photos. Have fun.
Making jewelry is always a lot of fun. It doesn’t have to be expensive. You can start out by just stringing beads- you can use seed bead, which are the really small ones, and you can buy bigger beads for your daughter to string. If you go to Michael’s, they have all sorts of different sets wher you can make really pretty jewelry. Working with beads is very addictive and so much fun, and tends to be very easy. Just go to Wal-mart or your local craft store, buy a tube of seed beads, or really, any kind of bead that catches your eye. you will also need beading needles, which are really long and skinny, as well as some kind of thread- I use really fine fishing line. If you make them really long ou won’t need any kind of clasps or anything for the ends. For your daughter, depending on her age, she could string it up large beads, like pony beads, on yarn- just tape one end and she won’t even need a needle. The beads will just slide over the taped end. I haven’t worked with beads in a really long time, but it is so much fun! Have fun, whatever you decide to do.
I wish I had the video on it but woodworkers supply has a booklet on it. All you really need is a very insanely sharp pocket knife with a small blade and medium blade and some paint with small artiest brushes. Sharpness is the trick!
Have you ever seen these little roosters carved from a forked stick? It’s very easy and enjoyable and you can pain it too! Holding the stick so that it looks like a “Y” the button will be the two legs, one side of the “Y” will be the head and the other you shave down curlers to form the tail. then you paint the comp and gobbler red and the beak yellow and use the small tip end of the handle tip put a small white dot for the eye then a smaller little black dot to finish it off! I’ve e spent hours carving one after another and they sell so easily too! Everyone know about what Jesus said, “You will Deniy me there times before the cock crows” I’ve got as much as $10.00 for them when there really good. I wish I had one right now to send yo a photo of one. If you get back to me i will have one to send you a pix!
May god bless you always
and keep you and yours save eternal!
