What could I get to make a basic spy kit?
Weird, I know, but I’ve always always ALWAYS wanted one. It needs to be affordable, and I wil most likely have to buy online.
I will need a magnifying glass. Preferable the classic form, only metal and smaller.
A flashlight, of course.
A recorder, for taking notes (hate taking notes)
Rear view glasses! Or glasses with a zoom in feature! Not the fake sunglasses, fake glasses. Clear lenses.
Any spy stuff I can think of, homemade is best. I have a fingerprint kit, and a hook (string and a pencil and a paperclip and for the finger print a makeup brush and paper powder with tape and black paper)
Not sure what else.
I will need to carry it, of course. I have an idea, but no clue how to buy or make it. If you have seen nancy drew, the one with Emma Roberts, you should see her sleuthing kit. Its a Messenger bag, but has 2 flaps. One like the normal one, and the second unfolds to the side (velcro) and there are compartments with different things in it. I can sew, and I’m good at crafts, but I’m not sure how to make it.
Try to keep it as inexpensive as possible. THANKS!

Wish I could help you. At first I thought you were going to ask for places to get the surveillance equipment that people seem to feel is necessary these days. Many cities have stores that sell all sorts of “spy” equipment.
I’m glad to see that you’re working on a fantasy kit. Don’t forget the lemon juice for invisible writing and a heat source to make it visible. Maybe Q-Tips for swabbing things.
As for the bag: Go to the store or outlet near you that sells Coach bags and Fossil bags and other high-end bags and study how they are made. You can use fabric, heavy interfacing (even plastic canvas sheets), and lining material with Velcro, snaps, zippers, and so on to build one that suits you.
You have to make invisible ink. Get some lemon juice and put it in a small bowl or other container. You can squeeze a lemon or buy some in a bottle. Write a message with the lemon juice on a plain white piece of paper. You can use a cotton swab, toothpick, paintbrush or toothbrush as a pen. Let the paper dry completely. Heat the paper up by holding it near a light bulb or other heat source. Read the message which should appear in a pale tan or brown color. You can also make invisible ink using baking soda. You need a couple of things for disguises – false eyebrows, glasses, wigs, mustaches, coats, hats, face paint, washable hair dye.
Other things that would be useful in a spy kit would be binoculars, a tiny camera, walkie talkies, a fingerprint kit (mix equal parts cornstarch and soot in a small container for fingerprinting powder. Use some clear tape to lift prints), a thermos (for hot drinks on those long stake outs).
Open a used hardcover book to page 20 or 25. Use a sharp knife to cut a deep square from the pages for a hiding space. Reinforce the cut section by lining the square with tape.
Create a cipher wheel. Cut a circle from construction paper, making one small triangular attachment on the edge. Cut out another circle that is slightly larger. Use a ruler to divide each circle into 26 equal wedges. Write the alphabet in random order on each wedge, making sure that each wheel has one of every letter. Trim the triangular attachment so that it is only attached to one drawn segment. Pin the smaller wheel in the center of the larger wheel with the metal fastener. Create an identical cipher wheel to give to anyone who might need to interpret an invisible message you have to send, and for them to send messages to you. The triangle must point to that letter to determine the key.
Make sure that one of your mirrors is one you can use to see around corners. You can get them at hardware stores – they are like long collapsible pointers.
