What can I make using pistachios shells?
Hi community member’s,
What can I make using pistachio shells? I need some ideas as I will be using this in some kind of craft project for elderly people. I will return for what I feel is the best answer. Thanks & have a good AM. :0)
let’s hope someone hasa better answer than the ones I’ve gotten. If no good answers I can remove this post.

a giant tableau of the anunciation of our blessed virgin, a mosaic of a nuclear power station or how about a mongoose.
its pm.
a full bin on your doorstep.
ah, you’ve brought back some fun childhood memories!
the easiest is to glue the shells on card/chart paper to form various designs – flowers, leaves, landscapes, rocks….. then paint them with beautiful colors to bring life into them.
if you can figure out a way to make tiny holes in them carefully, then use them to make ornaments – string them like beads.
stick them on lengths of strings [easier than piercing] to make those beaded partitions between doors – i can’t remember what they’re called. you can intersperse with other material too such as paper beads, real beads, wooden beads, etc to bring in more variety.
use them to adorn lamp-shades, vases, flower pots, etc.
and colour as desired – use water or acrylic paints; even oil paints will work well.
hope these get you started
all the very best & have fun
There are a lot of good ideas in some of the links from this google search:

One of them mentions dyeing the shells first, and I was thinking of that too. I assume they’d dye okay (just with Rit dye, or even some natural dyes) since I’ve dyed other “wood” products before for crafts like that.
They could also be painted of course,
One thing to remember is that older people may have a hard time picking up and manipulating single pistachio shells (I have trouble myself), so it might be good to have them in a pile on a washcloth or something for picking up, or put a bit of Blu Tac or something similar on the end of a toothpick or pencil to make a sticky end that could be pressed on the back of each shell to pick it up and move it somewhere (as for mosaics).
Some older people may not have the hand precision necessary for manipulating small things like this though, so it might be good to have other pistachio-shell crafts too that don’t require manipulating individual shells… maybe some kind of rattles?
HTH, and best of luck!
