I recommend that you go to an Arts & Crafts store, such as Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, or JoAnn Fabric. Wander around the various departments to see what strikes your fancy. Jewelry making is a good choice because even a 2 year old can put a bead on a string, so you merely have to adapt the beads and stringing material to the age and dexterity of the child. Most craft stores have free leaflets with instructions on how to do a specific craft, so you can try several until you learn which one(s) you like. Many of the crafts have inexpensive starter kits so you can try it with little investment; I have often bought kits to make crafts such as piggy banks, lip/body gloss, and etched pictures for my nieces and nephews.

I helped two nieces roast a chicken and bake vegetables when they were about 10. I have also bought boxed dinners and pizza dough and toppings for them to assemble. They have made pancakes, cookies, and cakes from a mix. When they are ready to cook from scratch, you can buy a kid’s cook book, or get one from the library.
