Rotary cutter for cutting curves?

Has anyone tried using a rotary cutter for cutting out curves in paper? Or are they really for just cutting straight lines?

I’d invest in a small one, if I thought it would work well for cutting paper, thin sheets of plastic, for crafting, making cards, etc…

thanks…

I’ve heard of ones that cut circles if that is what you mean…

I’ve used a rotary cutter for cutting tissue patterns atop fabric for several years.

The smaller one handles better around curves.

You also need a cutting mat for rotary cutters and a non-slip ruler.

Acrylic rulers are good – you can see through them.

You can get little sandpaper dots in the quilting supplies to put on rulers to keep them from slipping while you are cutting.

The same supplies can be found in craft stores if you do not want to shop in a fabric department/store.

I have used my rotary cutter for cutting long lines in patterns and long curves. Small tight curves don’t work too well tho. But anything you can set the cutter against will work ok.

I did some free hand curve cutting with it also. So long as it doesn’t need to be too perfect it works fine.

Did a panorama Quilt top and did all the cutting with rotary cutter.

I agree with Miz. Lamb and the others that gave you answers. I just took mine out of the package so I could try it out for you. It did great for straight but messed up the paper when I tried to cut curves. I also got what Crayola calls the Ultimate Cutter and tried to cut card stock. All it did was score it. It’s only good for a single sheet of regular paper or to score card stock to help it fold.

I am also looking for something to cut perfect curves in thick cardboard, framing mat paper, etc. Let me know if you find the right tool. Good Luck!
