Maybe at a discounted price, I doubt for free.

  2. sunny says:

Why not ask? It can’t ever hurt to try. If not free, they may give you a super discount.

If you are needing these beads for a special project to be used with a group like Girl Scouts, church youth group, etc. they will usually do something special for you.

  3. Precious Gem says:

No, but you could try and make an offer for the
    entire lot.

    Sunny gave a good answer.
I do a lot of charity work and will frequently get discounts from my LYS (local yarn store) if they have yarns that are not selling. They need the space, I need the yarn — WIN WIN

    Never hurts to ask

probably not, i used to work at michaels, and when we put things on clearance, we kept marking them down til they sold..usually for 10 or 20 cents at the cheapest. Also i know that alot of stores take what doesn’t sale, and send it back to the Manufacturer..and get credit for it, so i’m SERIOUSLY doubting they would do that..however i do know that michaels THROWS away things that are broken or damaged, if the pack of beads was ripped open…etc..so you MIGHT be able ot talk them into giving those to you..good luck tho, @ the store i worked at we tried to talk them into giving old mags, to the nursing homes, but they would rather tear the cover off and throw them away, so good luck!

I doubt that they would give them to you unless you were doing a charity event with some children and needed beads or other craft items.
Believe me… I have a craft store and I get 6 to 10 request a DAY for free stuff. I will usually give things to groups who I know shop with me on a regular basis, or I donate to the local “Y”.

no they wouldnt, i tried that already and the manager was very rude about it ..maybe it was jsut cause he was a meanie, it cant hurt to try…good luck

Someone else in another question suggested Freecycle, which is one possibility.
The way it works is that lots of people go online into the message board for the freecycle group in their area, then ask for what they need or say what have to offer (only free things), then arrange to pick it up if necessary.
If you don’t have access to a computer, you can use one free at a library or through a friend. I think you have to “join” freecycle, but it’s free and easy to do and no strings attached.
Here’s a link for finding the one(s) in your area since they’re all over the U.S.:
    http://www.freecycle.org

Another idea wouldn’t be free but would be cheap.
Go to garage sales and thrift shops and buy pieces of jewelry (from necklaces to earrings)… then take them apart so you can keep all the beads and findings to make new stuff, or just use the beads if that’s all you want. Sometimes dollar stores will have jewelry of various types you could take apart too.

You can also make your own beads from polymer clay (or from other totally free things like paper pulp, salt dough clay, magazine pages –long triangles rolled up around a toothpick– etc. Polymer clay beads can be cheap if you use the cheapest polymer clay or buy it when it’s on sale at Michaels… even the cheap original Sculpey that comes in a box (comes only in white and terracotta) will be strong after baking if it doesn’t have any thin or sticking-out parts.
And you can paint baked polymer clay with acrylics, or color it from the inside while raw by mixing in oil paints or alcohol inks (or small amounts of acrylic paints), and you can stamp or texture the clay before baking or “marble it”, etc., etc, too.
(check out at least the Beads page at my site if you want some info about polymer clay beads:
    http://glassattic.com/polymer/beads.htm )

Sounds like a great thing to do… I’m sure she will love it. And hang in there!
