Proper name for the led lights you find on greetings cards or flashing badges? How to buy them for craft use?

Hi all,

I’m fairly skint this Christmas, so am doing paintings for friends and family instead of presents. One of my friends used to love Moulin Rouge, so I figured I’d paint the main characters, with the windmill in the background. This is where the tiny led lights come in. I’d love to find somewhere that sells the mini lights you find on those ostentatiously flashy Birthday badges, and on some greetings cards – but have no idea what they’d be called, or where to purchase them. The slightly ambitious dream is to be able to stick some of these lights through the canvas, and have them light up the windmill.

These are the lights I’m talking about:

If anyone could help me out, I’d be really grateful. Thanks!
Bah, I was hoping they’d be something fancier than the simple LED lights you use on circuit boards. This changes my question slightly:

It is now… how might I connect these up to a battery, after poking them through the canvas?

They are called led lights , try some were like hobby craft

Solder wire onto the leads. then wire them to a switch and battery. Or use clamp connections instead of solder (I’m old school, so I’d solder).

LEDs are usually cheaper at electronics parts stores than at hobby shops — e.g.:

Now that the stores are in full swing for the holidays, you could probably find some at your local craft or hobby shop that are pre-wired for use with a battery. I know I’ve seen them in the past. If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area that would be the first place I’d look…
