How about origami? At least it can be challenging if you decide to make something complicated!

I have made small paper “quilts” using different layers of paper in different colors each one cut differently. I made a pattern about 3 inches big to make it work then I made that pattern about an inch and a half. Multiply it across and down leaving a band between and you have your quilt. I cut my paper out using an exacto knife on a cutting board.

    Re-purpose, reuse, recycle.
I have given myself the challenge since my daughter left for college to send her letters/cards/packaging materials made only out of junk mail or scrap paper, fabric, or plastic. I made her a card and envelope yesterday where the only new item was a small tag and one phony rhinestone. i used a newsprint magazine that I stained brown and sewed together in place of card stock for the base. I punched flowers and cut a stem out of the outer most layer of a dog food bag. The leaves came from a folded piece of fabric i found on the floor, left over from a previous project and bound for the trash. I used the inside of a junk mail envelope which i pleated and put under the flower to frame it. I used more junk mail envelopes to line the card and for a label for the envelope that I made out of the left over newsprint magazine. Seeing that trash they push through mail slot nearly every day as “New Craft Supplies!” puts a smile on my face.
One other fun project i did on these lines was to make a heart shaped bag out of old magazines and then pass it on to my friend to embellish. Her mission was to use as many bits of trash, scraps, or left overs as possible. It turned out great, and it’s fun to think about things in a new way.
