Old narrow jelly jars?

You know those old narrow jelly jars that many people ended up using as drinking glasses (at least my grandma and great grandma did during the depression). Well, I have a box full of them and my family is very big into preserving family possessions, no matter how simple they are. Does anyone have any craft suggestions for these jelly jars that does not include painting them or turning them into candles, or anything else that changes their original shape/design?

The only thing that comes to mind is to make a shelf in front of a light source, like a window of course. Put things in the jars that are translucent and colorful. I have something like that in my kitchen but used some old bud vases that were handed down.

You can display collections like buttons, marbles, small seashells, etc. or put different kinds of pasta in them & sit them on a shelf in the kitchen. You can make cloth tops that hang over the side a little or cross stitch the name of the pasta & attach to top with some batting underneath to make it stand up (like the top of a pincushion).

Use them as storage for small items, or make them into decorative bottles for the kitchen. Fill them with oil & put fresh herbs in them.
