Okay, so I’ve tried artist craft wire, and it’s really easy to use.?

I know it’s non-tarnishing, but is there any you can get that the finish won’t wear off? I usually buy the silver plated and withing a week or less, this silver is gone on the back of the ring and copper is peeking thru. I think it makes my jewelry look cheap, is there any way to prevent this. I just cannot afford sterling wire for my rings, bracelets and necklaces.

Heavier plating?? or maybe you can coat the back with something like tung oil finish?

Tung oil finish has equal amounts of tung oil and shellac in it so it dries rather fast.

I am not a jewelry maker, just one who buys you guys stuff and has to coat it at home to make it last longer for me.

What brand of wire are you using? Not all are created equal. The Wild Wire brand (usually in Michaels) is a little dodgy. Try Artistic or BeadSmith brands. The BeadSmith brand works especially well for me and I make clasps out of the larger gauges. With as much wear as they get, the wire stays silver-colored.

If I can answer any other questions or if you have a hard time finding these and would like to try, please let me know. I work in wire extensively.

    Have fun!!
