I’d start by visiting several local craft fairs and see what’s moving. No point in making something that’s not selling in your area, then paying for space to not sell it.

first you need a business license.

You and Mom have probably already shopped the craft fairs and you see what everyone else is making, so you might want to do something different. Take a look at the gift catalogs that come in the mail, what do they offer that is different than what you see at the craft fairs? When I was doing craft fairs, I checked with the local City license office and determined that I didn’t need the $40.00 business license for doing 3 or 4 craft fairs in the Fall. Good luck to you and Mom.
