Making a yarn craft with toilet paper rolls, anyone know how?

In elementary school, I remember making these yarn crafts. You took a toilet paper roll, and cut them into 2 inch pieces, and then wrapped masking tape around them so they were firm. And then you would wrap yarn around them. That’s all I remember though. Does anyone know what you did after that, and what you were making? If so, can you tell me how? (:

Sounds as though you might have been making napkin rings. Or, if you fastened several of them together, trivets.

Napkin rings for families who use cloth napkins.
