Looking for a local seamstress…?
Wanting to find a seamstress in my area that could possibly make some custom garb for me. I like to attend ren-faires and such, and have seen some nice patterns at my local Wal*Mart, and while I could easily buy the fabric and the pattern, the craft of the actual garb is beyond my ability to sew; any advice on how I might be able to find someone in my area that could do this?

look for tailors in the yellow pages.
Find your local SCA chapter.
http://sca.org/geography/kingdom_lookup.html should help you find your kingdom. You will generally find a “groups” or “find a group” link on the Kingdom’s front page.
We are a not-for-profit educational group which studies life in the European middle ages and Rennaissance. Everything from combat to archery to brewing, dancing, and painting. If they did it in the Middle Ages, we do it now (aside from slavery, plague and a few other unpleasant subjects). Its often been said we recreate the Middle Ages as they should have been.
The SCA might be right for you, and it might not. But they should be able to put you into contact with someone who sews for money or trade.
Your city and state would help. Could you put in an “edit” with it as if you put in your zip code most of us do not have a method of locating the information.
Go to a fabric store (a real fabric store, not Wal-Mart) and check out seamstresses’ business cards on the bulletin board. You also can ask the store’s employees for recommendations.
JoAnn fabric stores keep a book on file of local resources.
I could make it for you. My sister got married last November and the theme was Renaissance. All the dresses and boys outfits were hand made by my sister and I.
Really if you know how to sew and read a pattern nothing is beyond a persons ability.
I even made my own wedding dress 12 years ago.
Feel free to e-mail me and maybe we can work something out. I’m wanting to get into making ren-faire costumes for $$$.
Just let me know. One rate shipping is a pretty cheap way to go to ship supplies. The finished items I would fed-ex or ups back to you packaged properly.
It would probably cost less than $40 to ship back and forth. Or you could send me the pattern and a fabric swatch and I could purchase the amounts required and go from there. I also have a smoke free home. We have a cat and dog but they are never in my sewing room.
Oh and I’m in Pennsylvania if your interested.
