Knitting help!! Please answer,?

This pattern right here: http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=4955

It calls for a size 11 circular needle 36 inches long. However the craft store near me only has a 29 inch long one. Does it really matter if i use a shorter needle? I’m totally desperate and I don’t really care if it’s shorter than what the pattern calls for but I don’t want my blanket to be screwed up.

I’m honestly not sure but I’d think the right size one would be best. If the needle is too small it may go all the way through before it should and the material may screw up. It’d be best to get the Size 11 Circular Needle [36 Inch]

I assume since you are making a blanket that you are knitting back and forth–so you are not closing in a circle. So the length of the circular needle is determined by the number of stitches you are using. If you are using a great number of stitches you might consider using a longer circular then your pattern calls for.Hope this helps Helen

It won’t make any difference to the blanket.
If you have a vast number of stitches it may be a bit more fiddly to use . That’s all.

You shouldn’t have a problem with a shorter circular needle. The problem is when you have a longer needle. You could order a longer needle on line. I have a set of 3 cables and about 7 needles that can be attached and used inter-changeably. (If you are going to knit more in the future you will save money with interchangeable needles rather than maybe buying a new size for each item.)

No, the length of the cord does not make much difference, but if you are making a blanket, then you may need a lot of room. Or you can make a smaller blanket — just cast on fewer stitches. As long as you can get all the stitches on the needle, you will be fine. I’ve had over 2,000 stitches on my long needles, but it was fine yarn, and I had just barely enough room. Try it and see. Or you can use another short needle — there is no rule saying you MUST use only one needle. And I’ve used double point needles as well… it’s all the same. You just need to be able to make the stitches. What you use is not that important, as long as you get what you wanted.
