Kindergarten Room Mother “HOLIDAY PARTY” ideas? PLEASE HELP US!!?

4 Crafts & 1 snack. My friend and I are room mothers for our kids kindergarten class. I have searched the internet up and down but don’t really find anything interesting. We are trying to come up w/ some cute ideas but haven’t really found any yet. The kids only go half day, so we only have 2 hours to do this party. The rules are no christmas things, like santa, christmas trees, and whatever else might be related(which I think is stupid). So I’m assuming that we can’t do any Hanukkah related themes either. But Anyways.. we need to come up w/ 4 crafts for the kids to do, and a snack to make. The thing w/ the snacks is.. we can’t make them at home, or prepare for them @ home.. We have to prepare everything at the school (I think b/c of things like hepatitis) . We have like 1/2 hour to get things ready for the kids while they are in their special (gym, etc) if that helps. I really would like some cute suggestions that might be memorable for them and any ideas like keepsakes that their parents would like to keep around. I know this might be asking for too much, but I’m just hoping to get some ideas to roll w/. We can do anything else to do w/ winter, like snowman, etc. Also we can’t have the kids exchange gifts or anything along those lines. These rules are limiting our ideas so– We really need some assistance and Thank You Very much; Your ideas are very much appreciated!!!!

OH YEAH – We need to come up w/ a game too!
I know I said I didn’t like that rule & you are right.. it is a good rule b/c of that reason, I just wish we could have the different crafts ready to make, like christmas, hannukah, and whatever else they might celebrate & just have them choose which one they want to do, but that would be way to complicated anyways:)

clothespins, brown pipe cleaners, glue, little tiny white and red pom poms, little google eyes.glue three pom poms on top of each other and
add google eyes and you have a snowman.wrap pipe cleaners on clothespins and add google eyes and paint hooves on the bottom and glue on the red pom pom for rudolf’s nose and you have a reindeer. i would suggest gettin alenes craft glue.it sets faster than fast. let the kids paint the hooves and you glue on the eyes.it will be dry in half an hr.

You could buy sugar cookies from the store and let the kids decorate them with icing, and candy and stuff, you can make snowflakes, paper ones. stick the the carrot (paper carrot or buttons and arms and thinks with tape) on the snowman, or feathers on the turkey. build snowman out of marshmallows.

    Crafts-

The kids could take the pine cones, cover them in peanut butter and bird seed, and you could all go out and put it on the trees or where ever the kids want to put them

Paper snowflakes – you can also make 3d paper snowflakes, i don’t remember how, though

The kids could make a snowman out of 3 pieces of round paper, orange triangles, etc.

Also, they could make a snow tree – have them cut out a green fir tree, and then use white paint or something to put “snow” on it

For food, maybe you could bring in prepackaged sugar cookies? Or have the school prepare some plain sugar cookies for you? And then have the kids decorate them. I don’t know what else you could do…

And for the game, you could do pretty much anything.

Oh yeah: You could also take a bulletin board, and make a “snow scene” on it. (Blue paper on the top half, white on the bottom.) You can have the kids make little people, snowman, trees, houses etc. for the scene and put them all together on there.

I think it’s a really good rule, there’s some kids who don’t celebrate holidays, and this way they can be included, too.

I have some Ideas! I used to teach Preschool and daycare before I moved to a different state, so I have some ideas.

    Snack,
If nothing can be prepared at home, use store bought food and drink that way the teacher will see it has been prepackaged. Also, get a list of any food allergies the children might have. Snowflake shaped cookies are always fun with milk.

At a table, set cars out and use shaving cream as snow that they can drive their cars through. Make a pile of “snow” in front of each seat. Make sure to tell them not to put it in their mouths!

Black construction paper, white paint. They can make their own winter wonderland! Pre-paint a picture of a snowman on one for them to look at.

Buy some insta snow powder. Just put it in a big plastic tub, and add water. This will make fake snow that feels cool to the touch. A lot of fun!

Maybe do pin the nose on the snowman.

Coloring pages, with big mittens, children building a snowman etc. (search the web)

Do a snowball fight with pieces of white paper. Give each child a piece of white paper and tell them to repeat after you. “I’m rolling up a snow ball,(crumble the paper into a ball) when the sky is blue, (make a windshield wiper motion with one finger pointed up–to show the sky is big.) I’m rolling up a snowball, to throw at you, and they will all throw their “snowball”. Then start picking up snowballs off the ground and yell snowball fight! They will start picking up the snowballs and throw them and laugh! It’s so much fun!

    Email me for more ideas!!

I know what you mean. The many “restrictions” limit your ability to have a fun holiday party, but I think you can do it.

Why 4 crafts? Since you only have 2 hours, why not 1 craft? Anyway- I see a lot of snowmen stuff in the craft stores- like art foam. Kids can glue snowflakes and stuff on them. I have seen door knob decorations- which would fit. Have them all ready in baggies. Each kid gets a ‘kit’. Then, all you have to do is put out newspapers on the tables, paper plates for glue, etc.

You could also have some pre-cut winter stuff for the kids to glue. Make them into magnets for the frig.

As for snacks-maybe some ‘trail mix’? Leave out the nuts for those with allergies. Can you have them in jars so you can quickly mix them up? Otherwise, you may need to buy some prepackaged holiday cookies….

For a game- can the kids read? Do they know their letters?
You can do a ‘bingo’ game maybe spelling out Winter or Snowman.
Prizes could be pencils with winter erasers or something like that. Everyone gets a prize.
