is there any kind of arts and crafts center (thats not in a nursing home) for my grandma?

i was wondering if there were any because she retired 2 years ago and shes bored at home all the time. she doesn’t have any kind of disability and i was wondering if they had a program like that for the elderly where you just go (wherever the designated location is) stay there for some time, do crafts (i’m not looking for a specific craft just crafts in general where they could do a lot of different ones), talk to others and just enjoy themselves.
but here’s the problem. it has to be a korean-american or korean program because my grandma is korean and she can’t speak english. the location would have to be around diamond bar, chino, chino hills, and rowland heights, walnut, etc etc in southern california. please nothing in LA koreatown because that is just simply too far

thanks in advance :D

You could check out searching on Y! Local

She can try any local “senior centers” in her area (call local community centers to see if they know where they are) since they often have craft and similar classes. She wouldn’t always need to know English either, since many crafts can be copied simply by watching (though she wouldn’t be “talking to others for enjoyment”… perhaps there would be some Korean-speaking members attending the class though).

She might also want to form a loose “club” with some of her friends or with other Korean-speaking people in the area (she could look for interest in her church, or tell her friends to ask their friends, post a notice in the local library or Korean grocery store, etc., etc.).

In groups/clubs like that, the members may teach each other whatever they’re at least a little familiar with, or they can simply try a particular technique each time they meet–or in the time between meetings (…they can find lessons in library books or online, or just try things out together).
Groups like that can be a lot of fun (they could even be about other “crafts” like cooking, making things for grandchildren, etc.)

    HTH, and best of luck!

P.S. Btw, your grandma is probably NOT “elderly” if she retired only two years ago! (these days “elderly” doesn’t apply till one is around 80 or more).

there is a service called “meet-up” on yahoo, it is for things just like you are asking for, try searching “meet-up groups” on yahoo, and then you should find an area selection. They are put together by folks looking to “meet-up” for all kinds of things, crafts, poetry, exercise, all kids of things.
