Is it possible to dye a pair of denim jeans green with dye from the craft store such as using Rit fabric dye?

If you buy a pair of white jeans made of 99% cotton and 1% spandex, can you go to the craft store and buy green dye to dye them green?

    Yes you should be able to dye them effectively with some Rit. The 1% spandex will effect the dye in some way, but it should not interfere too overtly. It may have tiny flecks of white. Nevertheless, boiling the jeans to dye them may take some of the stretch out of the spandex.

    Yes, you can dye denim jeans with Rit fabric dye, but they will not be color fast. And you should always wash separately in cold water to keep the colors from fading even more. This is from personal experience.

    Yes you will be able to dye them using Rit. If you want a dark color, you will need two boxes of the same color of dye. If you want a really dark green, you can mix green with black and get a darker shade. Make sure you follow the package instructions exactly (don’t forget the step about the salt, it’s so important). Enjoy your green jeans!
