How to protect fabric covered buttons?

I recently bought a kit to make fabric covered buttons that I’m using to make earrings, necklaces, etc. and I’m trying to figure out a way that I can protect the fabric. I’ve tried doing some searches for a type of fabric sealant but none of them are for crafts and I don’t know what to use. I want something that dries clear, does anyone have any suggestions?

Scotch guard is for fabric and that is what you want to protect. It sprays on and is not noticeable.

Or, you could use Modge-Podge. It is clear but will add firmness to the fabric.
