How Glue Pvc Pipe To Wood For Arts And Crafts Project?
Hi, I’m doing an arts and crafts project for scouts and it calls for pvc pipe(1/2 inch) and a wood circle(1/2 inch diameter) for a neckerchief slide. The wood has to be painted then glued to the pvc. Any idea what kind of glue I should use? I’m new at this and thanks in advance for reading!

Hello:
If you are doing this on the fly with the boys, use hot melt glue (higher temperature holds better/longer but be careful with the tip. Cub Scouts are not allowed to use electric tools. The hot melt glue will hold for a few wearings but will eventually fail. Usually the boy has lost the slide by then, or made another.
If you can glue them beforehand, two-part epoxy will hold the hardest the longest.
Elmer’s or other white glue will also hold, but you should let the glue dry 24 hours.
Remember to use some emery cloth to scuff up the pvc prior to gluing to provide a better surface for the glue.
The silicone adhesives E6000 and Goop retail products will glue PVC and wood to each other and almost everything that is not styrene or polystyrene. Sets to a hard clear only slightly flexible substance that fills gaps nicely.
It would be best if you could leave the point of contact on the wood free of paint. Clean both surfaces with denatured alcohol or other methods for best adhesion as with all glues.http://www.eclecticproducts.com/about.ht…
Congratulations scouter!!!!
I myself have helped with hundreds of slides. Like the gentleman said, Goop is great. Superglue should work too, but practice on a scrap piece first. a 1/2 inch piece of wood sounds a little small to me, but I don’t know what the finished piece looks like so don’t mind me.
Best of luck to you!
