Use a drill with a small drill bit, you will be able to poke many holes in many shells….goodluck!

    Use a power drill.

  3. Mohab says:

Yes use a drill with a small bit but use an electric drill as a manually turned drill will not spin fast enough.

With an egg shell you can tap gently /repeatedly many times with a pointy thing such as a pointy knife or a skewer,if you mean a sea shell that may work if it’s thin,I don’t really know .

Since a power tool is out of the question, an awl would do the trick. (although the drill would make a neater hole with a lesser chance of chipping.)

If it is seashells they are calcitic and you can use a normal steel drill bit (i.e. 3 mm diam) and a electric (battery) hand dril. It is fast and make a nice hole.

At the very least, you need to use a hand drill (I believe it’s also known as a pin tool). If you use anything else, you run too much of a risk of breaking your shell.

Use a very small drill (like a craft drill) and a small drill bit. Dip the drill bit in oil first as this will prevent the shell overheating and cracking.
