How do I get different colors for the elastic band on underwear?

I am trying to sew my own panties but I’m having trouble figuring out what to do for the elastic. I tried finding elastic band in the craft store that was wide enough but it only comes in white/black/nude. Am I supposed to sew a strip of colored fabric around the elastic and then sew it to the panties (if so, what fabric type should I use?)? Or is there somewhere I can find elastic bands (at least 1/4″) that come in different colors?

Easiest is just to make a casing with the top of the panties and run elastic through the casing. Manufacturers can have elastic dyed to match their fabrics (because they’re buying thousands of yards), but the rest of us have to make do with what we can find.

You can dye nylon elastics at home… but it hardly seems worth the trouble to me.
