How can I put a scent on fabric that will last through washing etc?

I’m making a strawberry shortcake quilt and want to scent it strawberry (of course). I know craft stores have products for scenting potpourri – but is that the best to use? and any tips to get it to last through washings?( I know it must be possible to some extent since its often hard to remove fabric softener scent)

All i can come up with is wash the fabric with scented water/soak it and include a bottle of “refresher spray”

Usually people try to get a scent out of fabric. But in your case the only option I see is to wash it and then put the scent in the rinse water and possibly put a small bag full of strawberry potpourri in the dryer with it.

The purpose of washing something is to get the scent OUT of fabric, and if you want to keep the scent in it, then it isn’t washed, is it?? I wouldn’t want stale smells in any of my things… I want them clean!

I think putting a scent in after, and you don’t normally wash quilts that often, so it should be okay. But some scents, which you think are nice, can be quite nauseating to others. Be careful.

Particularly if this is for a child, I’d leave the scent off… most fragrance chemicals are pretty good sensitizers. No use setting her up for allergic problems.
