How can I engage the boys in my summer camp?

I’m working at a summer camp this year for 8s and 9s and the boys in my group (there are 10 of them) are super rowdy and don’t seem to enjoy any of the games or crafts that we are doing. How can I make them more enthusiastic, assert my authority better, and what are some games you have tried that work well to tire kids out/are enjoyable for kids?

   tag works great. or sometimes when i get sick of them i send them in the backyard with a bunch of padded swords. after about 5 mins of just beating each other up they come inside and sleep… of course they’re not 8 or 9. you should try being funny, fun, and ask them what they like to do.
