I found a “recipe” for the paste. They cook it. Which I never did. It should be thick like pancake batter. I’d use a shallow pan add flour, stirring with a fork until most of the lumps are gone. Tear old newspapers into long strips about an inch wide. Wet both sides of strips and start your sculptor.

save yourself some trouble and go to the Arts and craft store they have this instant paper mache all you gotta do is wet it and move your hand across it to activate it then do whatever you want I was about to make some earlier this school year for my girl’s Social Studies project but once I found that I got it and never looked back That stuff is magnificent!! I am sorry I cannot remember the name for you but it is a very popular product

the old way was to buy a gallon bottle of liquid starch, and strips of news paper crimmple your paper up and make the shape that you want then take strips of news paper dipped in the starch and start layering them over your mold make sure you take the excess liquid off the strip of paper before you put it on your mold , smooth out the air bubbles as you go , let the layers dry before (2 or3 ) before you put more layers on
