Help, I have no idea what I’m doing..?
I have an ugly old trunk that looks just like this one:

I want to decoupage it with black and white copies of the strips from my old Calvin and Hobbes comic books.
Thing is, I’ve never done decoupage, or any craft, for that matter. Please help. Any advice, tips, instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Also, how would I go about changing the color of the trim to black?

get textured black spray paint for the rim at your local hardware/craft store.
In order to decoupage you will need a
product called Mod Podge which is sold in craft stores. There will be directions on the bottle. As for the trim I recommend you do the trim first.
Krylon spray paint and painter’s masking tape plus old newspapers to cover the trunk. Spray the trim in a satin finish. Let dry completely and
then decoupage the rest of the trunk.

If you’re going to cover the whole trunk, you won’t need to worry about using painter’s tape on the trunk portion – just spray away to cover the gold. I think, though, that unless you sand those gold medal fixtures, the paint may scrape/chip off.
