Good Places to Sell your Crafts Online
There are many good places to sell your crafts online. Here is a list of the most popular ones :
- eBay is a good place to sell most things. The fees are a bit high and some items don’t sell well, but if the buyers like your items it may be worth it. But remember, many people go for eBay to hunt for bargains, not for quality craft shopping, so make sure you insist on the value of your items in your auctions.
- Etsy is also a great marketplace. It’s dedicated to craft, so you’re around like-minded people, and the shoppers are looking for crafts so it’s all good. This can also be a downside, since there are hundreds of craft store a mouse click away. But with good promotion and unique products Etsy can work well. It’s also a good place to shop for supplies and tools you can’t find at your local craft store.
- There are also many marketplaces dedicated to one craft or theme in particular. They are too many to name, but it’s worth looking around to see if something like that exists for your craft. Again, it’s a bit hard with all those sellers trying to push the same craft, but if you make unique, quality stuff it can work.
- You may also wish to setup your own website to sell your crafts. I won’t go in details now on the various options, but this allows you to own your name and space. This way, you’re sure you won’t loose everything in case of a crash or bankruptcy of your favorite marketplace. For more safety, make frequent backups of your stuff, and buy your domain name at a reputable accredited registrar like GoDaddy. Promoting that way is harder, since you don’t have the instant traffic Etsy or eBay will get you, but you have control, and it looks a lot more professional on labels or business cards. And with domain names at 8$ and good small hosting at less than 20$ a year, price is no excuse. (Read more about setting up your own website here)
- You can also start a free blog on MySpace, Blogger and the like. I’m a programmer, so I like my coding freedom, but if you’re just getting started and don’t want to have to create a whole website from scratch, this is great. And again, you have the advantage of a community already, so it’s not a bad option.
Finally, choosing the wrong place to sell is still better than doing nothing at all! So get started and sell, you can always add to it or change later.
Happy craft selling,
Cindy
