Beaded jewelry is fairly simple and quite common at craft fairs. If you’re going to do that, be sure there is something really special about yours — other than the fact that you made it, of course. That only works for your mother and her friends.

Right now, with the fuss about plastic grocery bags, I’d suggest making cloth ones on a simple pattern. Don’t charge too much. No matter how pretty is it, it’s still a grocery bag. I have a simple pattern for that kind of bag if you need one.

Can you get small terracotta pots and some kind of simple trays? If so, decorate the pots a little and plant an indoor herb garden for cooks to use. Pant the most commonly used fresh cooking herbs, of course. Sell them in sets of three or four herbs.

An already-planted pot of mint with instructions on drying it and making it into tea might also sell well. It depends on your part of the country, of course. Decorate the pot a bit, of course, maybe with a gingham bow or something.
