Craft – Decoration: Can I paint on stainless steel?
Or how do I mark on stainless steel? I want to draw or paint or ‘carve’ freehand designs unto a stainless steel bowl. Is it possible?
Otherwise, what sort of paints should I use for stainless steel /glass / porcelain bowls?
I’d like your opinion or tips on this. It will be part of a present with many handmade gifts for someone important.

you have to use sand paper to sand and scratch it up then use the special spray paint that is for metals!
You can, but you need to prep the steel with a binder paint that will stick to the metal and then you can paint on that binder. If you paint directly, there is a chance of it not sticking for too long.

Yes, Donna dewberry has, I watch her on TV painting and decorating all kinds of things, Her paint didn’t need a primer and is sold in the craft section at walmart. It is called one stroke. She also has stencils and directions for this at walmart and most craft stores.

yeah you pry need to sand it, then prime it first, when your done painting your going to want to seal it, so the pait dosn’t chip

Sand the area first (you could use a stencil if you want some of the metal exposed and still smooth) then gesso the area. Gesso is a primer you can get at any art store. Painters use it on their canvases prior to painting. Following that, you can paint with any paint or color and draw on it with prisma colors. Prisma colors are oil-based color pencils that are great for color mixing and blending. Check out Helen Shirk on the internet. She is an amazing metals artist that uses priama color on copper forms. Good Luck! By the way, if you have a sand blaster, it will work better than sand paper on all of the materials you mentioned.
