Can someone break down this knitting pattern for me please?

I am working on this project:

http://www.ivillage.co.uk/homegarden/homemaking/crafts/articles/0,,695942_711537,00.html

and i am somewhat new with this. Can you please put this portion of the pattern in simpler terms without all of the abbreviations please?

TRUNK
Work 2 pieces alike. Using 4.5mm needles cast on 7 sts.

Next row: Inc in each of next 2 sts, patt to end.
Next row: Inc in each of next 3 sts patt to end.
Rep last 2 rows once more.
Next row: Inc in first st patt to end.
Next row: Inc in first st patt to end.
Work 2 more rows straight in pattern, break yarn and keep sts on stitch holder. 19 sts

one last thing: what is the best way to increase?

thanks very much! i really need to get working on this to finish it in time to give as a present!!

I would increase by knitting into the front and back of the stitch(es). so the first row you put here would be knit into front and back of 1st and 2nd stitch, then continue the row in the pattern stated which in this case is the moss stitch which is explained on the pattern.

The other way to do this is to look at the piece of yarn on the row below that stretches between the two stitches. You can slip your needle into that and pull out the thread and that way you pick up a stitch {That is known as m1=make 1 stitch}. You will k or p it on the next row.
To knit in front and back of a stitch is when you k or p a stitch take you needle and put it in the stitch on the other side of the needle that you first went into it.

OK, you’re going to do all this twice. Hopefully you’ve got your needles and cast on down pat. (translations in ( )

Next row: Inc in each of next 2 sts, patt to end. (Once you’ve cast on, increase one in each of the first two stitches, continue in the moss stitch pattern to the end of the row)

Next row: Inc in each of next 3 sts patt to end. (Increase 1 in each of the first three stitches after you turn the work, and continue the moss stitch pattern to the end of the row)

Rep last 2 rows once more. (repeat those two rows again, increasing two and three as you did before)

Next row: Inc in first st patt to end. (increase in first stitch, work in pattern of moss stitch to the end of the row.

Next row: Inc in first st patt to end. (this is a repeat of the previous row)

Work 2 more rows straight in pattern, break yarn and keep sts on stitch holder. 19 sts

(work two rows in pattern without any more increases, transfer all the stitches onto a stitch holder. You should have 19 stitches if all increases were made.)

A stitch holder looks like an oversize safety pin and will keep the stitches safe until you’re ready for them or you can just transfer them to another needle until you’re ready for them if you don’t have stitch holders. Hope this helps. Good luck with your knitting – this pattern looks adorable.

ps Knitting in front and back of stitch is a way of making two stitches out of one. It’s very tight and seems hard, but you’ll get the hang of it. Knit a stitch the usual way but keep it on the first needle, don’t slip it off. Pull your working needle to stretch it a bit, slip the tip under the stitch front to back, and knit again in the back side of the stitch..

This will give you two stitches where you had one before. If all else fails, try searching for videos on YouTube or Google that give great illustrated tutorials on almost anything you can imagine.
