Can anyone offer advice? (Trouble with Ebay.)?
For mothers day I wanted to do do something with some actual thought and care gone into it, so I thought maybe I’d make a matching necklace & earrings for my mom.
On Ebay, I’ve just spent all night looking through all the thousands of beads/charms etc, trying to find the best deals, colours and shapes that go together and so on, trying to think of what her taste is like and whether she’d like the end result.
I’d finally found a combination I was happy with, when I realised I needed to sign up to the site.
Ok, I think to myself, I have a card & paypal account, and I’ve bought things off websites before.
& Then I noticed the age requirement for Ebay is 18, whereas I am 16.
As you can imagine, I’m very annoyed right now.
I’m unsure about lying about my age, because I know some websites check your card details compared to what you’ve written about yourself on the website, and I’d rather not get banned or anything.
Normally I buy things using my mom’s Ebay account, but of course that’s out of the question.
I’d go to a craft store or something to see what they offer, but my town is terrible and has no craft stores nearby, and I can’t drive or anything so there’s no way of getting to the nearest one without utterly destroying the surprise factor of the thing.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do here?
Any answers are very appreciated, thank you for your time. ![]()
Steveo: Not really, my mom is a single parent & I rarely see any other relatives.
So I’m really stuck here! :/
Sizesmith: I tried looking at some oline craft stores to begin with, but even the more popular chains had mostly very poor options to choose from, and expect for you to pay silly money for very little amounts.
Although, I’d never thought to contact the sellers privately.
I’ll have to look into it, thanks!
Curtisports2: I never said it was a credit card, it’s a debit card which is completely legal for someone my age, or even younger, to have. Please don’t accuse me of breaking the law when I haven’t.
I’m able to pay, I’m just not able to sign up to the site yet.
I don’t know any, other than my mom.
Thanks for your help.

Is there someone else that could help you out? Dad, Aunt, Grandma, etc?
Perhaps buying off another sight, (I’m not sure of Amazon’s, or Overstock.com’s requirements). The reason the age is 18 on these sights is because they not only deal with small things, such as jewelry, they also deal with automobiles, real estate, and millions of items everyday.
Also, you might try something like JoAnn’s fabrics & crafts, or other online craft stores. Google the type of item you want, and then see what you can or can’t buy.
Also, as a guest on Ebay, you might not be able to open an account, but try contacting the seller with your email address, and see if you could purchase the item privately. Good luck, and I bet your mother will be thrilled!
How did you get a credit card at age 16 without lying about your age? There is something in the law called the Statute of Frauds that doesn’t make it illegal for minors to enter into contracts, but it does make such contracts unenforceable. That is why banks don’t give credit cards to minors.
eBay transactions are legally binding contracts. A seller usually won’t take legal action against a buyer that fails to pay, but they can under the law. If you were to buy something and break the contract, the chances of being sued are tiny, but if you were, the contract could not be legally enforced because of the Statute of Frauds. That is why eBay and most businesses do not allow minors to engage in business activity.
Your only legal option is to ask someone you know that’s a registered eBayer to help you out.
