Arts and crafts/ science people, help!?

I have to make a model of the element oxygen with protons, electrons, and all that jazz, and I don’t know what to use to make it. It needs to be 3-d, and be able to hang from the ceiling, without being too big. Can you guys please give me ideas of what to make it with, what materials to use, how to make it, or references to any sites?
Thanks a bunch!

  1. Ryan & Rachel says:

    Maybe it’s because I’m a hungry biochemist…but I would use:

Malted milk balls for the protons and neutrons (get two different colors if possible), glued together with hot glue (or frosting), with 3 long pieces of wire going through the middle pointing out up/down, front/back, and sideways.

Then you’ll need the orbiting electrons. You’ll need some rings of fine wire for this, that you can mount on your sticking out wires – go to a bead store – you can get the wire and some medium small beads to use for the electrons. So, put your ‘electrons’ on the fine wire, glue in place, make the rings, and glue to your anchor wires. If you want to be fancy, you can even have the p, s, d shells. Add 2 extra electrons if you want to be the oxygen ion. :)

Then bend the sticking out end of one of the anchor wires into a hook and cut the other sticking out ends off.

    Bam, done.
    Good luck!
