Anybody have a good craft project for baby socks?

I have tons of socks that were my sons, no that he is four I have a huge bag of socks that I want to do somethings with. I have made good use of clothes that other people didn’t want by making planters and cloths pinbags but the socks I can’t seem to come up with anything for.

You can also use them to make toys for cats or small dogs. Just stuff with stuffing and a squeaker or catnip and sew them up (it might help to double layer these).

You could make the littlest socks into finger puppets–use buttons or other fabric scraps to make the faces and “clothes” for them. Even the socks that are too big to be finger puppets could be hand puppets for your son. His hands are probably still small enough to fit into the more recently outgrown socks, and he’d probably have a lot of fun helping you make the puppets.

I don’t know exactly how they made them, but my daughter’s brownie scout troop collected socks to make cat toys to donate to a local shelter. I think they stuffed them with catnip or something, sewed on button eyes and tails (so they looked like mice). They then visited the shelter to give the toys to the cats, learned about the shelter’s program, and got to play with the kitties. I’m sure a shelter in your area would be thrilled to receive some donated cat toys, and your son will feel good about helping some animals in need.

This site has some creative ideas as well: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf25486520.tip.html Lots of things I’d never think to do with socks!

Or, make a sock monkey! Who says you have to use certain colors for a monkey, or make it a certain size? You could create your own unique sock monkey out of whatever socks you have! Here are the directions: http://www.supersockmonkey.com/catalog/howtomake.html

    Have fun!

My daughter did it with baby mittens…

She stuffed them with catnip and sewed the opening closed. I sold them at flea markets for $5.00 each and the people absolutely loved them.

Each week they kept coming back for more….said their cats couldn’t stop playing with them.

I took a picture of one of our cats ’wrestling’ with the toy…and put it in a frame by the display of toys.

Hers were called ’kitten mittens’…but I’m sure you could come up with something cute for the baby sox..
    ’Sock-it-to-me’ cat toys…something like that
