Am I aloud to sell with a pattern I got from somebody else. that is altered?

There is a website called thread banger that teaches all kinda of people how to
sew
chrochet
ectra
and they released a tutorial on how to make a bunny eard hoodie

it came with a downloadable pattern

Anyways
i downloaded it
but it was way too small for my likeing and I made it HUGE
and i added long scarf like attachments to it

so it is greatly altered

I was thinking of making an etsy to sell other crafts i make
and i wished to add this to the items I sell
but I am worried that It is illegal for me too

if i have greatly altered the pattern
is it okay to sell it as my own?

  1. Pinky D says:

Check first to see if the pattern is under copyright. If so, you should contact the publisher to get permission, even if you have altered the pattern. When I develop a project based on someone else’s pattern and “make it my own” or alter it to suit my needs, I give credit to the original designer if my intent is to sell it. Including a little card that says “This piece was inspired by Jane Doe” is enough to satisfy most people, plus it gives your customer a sense of your integrity.
