A question about potions for Dungeons and Dragons / D&D 3.5?

I currently have sorceress and I have never played the class before. Anyway looking over the book, I get NO extra feats or skills so I was wondering if anybody out there knew if there was a potion that granted you to learn a new feat and keep it- not a temp solution but permanent. I took brew potion, and have that for my craft skill as well as my profession. SO- is there such a potion??? What level would I have to be/how many points into alchemy would I need to craft such a potion??? My DM so far isn’t making us use material components so I don’t have to worry about that yet.

I think you can wear bracers, however I don’t know about the potions thing- I tend to play a barb when I play- sorry

I know you can wear bracers, and I’ve never heard about a potion to do what your asking, that might depend on your dm. Maybe your DM would allow you to learn how to make such a potion through diligent study.

That doesn’t exist to my knowledge (keeping up with D&D casually for about 18 years now). And, even if it DID exist in some weird expanded module rule set, I would wager your DM would have something to say/modify about it anyway. The best way is to declare your interest in creating such a potion and go about the process of study necessary (in game) to determine whether or not it’s something that a character of your level could produce.

If I was your DM, I would allow it. But, it would come with some SERIOUS costs and requirements.

Nope, a simple consumable like a potion would certainly not do so on a permanent basis…that’s somewhere in the vicinity of Wish-level magic. Remember, potions are limited to 3rd-level magical effects or below (iirc – don’t have books handy…might be 4th) and even then only those whose Target includes Personal (and possibly Touch – don’t recall that particular rule clarification offhand.) Also remember that potions are not Wonderous items. While you can create a potion of Bull’s Strength to improve swimming skill, you cannot create an Elixir of Swimming.

As for points in alchemy, strictly speaking there are no skill ranks required under core rules for potions (with the possible exception of poisons)…might doublecheck the DMG, but don’t recall any additional requirements besides the BP feat to brew a specific potion other than for the ability to cast the particular spell the potion is supposed to invoke (either as a known spell or off a scroll). However, the GM is free to enforce any rules they like to require unusual materials for brewing (tho if your GM doesn’t do so for normal material components, doubt they will here either.)
